Come Play in the Street

Thousands of people gathered on car free North Central Avenue on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, May 15th. They enjoyed walking and biking along the 1.2 mile route from Old City north to Happy Holler, participating in many activities including chess, martial arts, Contra dancing, Zumba, yoga, Tai Chi, several fun kids’ activities and many more. Some enjoyed visiting with friends and family while people watching. Local businesses and food trucks saw plenty of action as well with lots of customers. Another Open Streets Knoxville is planned for Sunday, October 9th. Details coming soon. Don’t miss it!

What is Open Streets Knoxville?
Open Streets are safe and fun!

Open Streets turns streets into safe, fun places for walking, bicycling, dancing, and other activities. During Open Streets Knoxville, Central St between the Old City and Happy Holler will be filled with people of all ages and abilities. The event provides them with a chance to walk, ride bicycles, hula hoop, zumba in the streets — all in a setting that is fun and safe. There will be free crossfit, yoga, and dance classes. Test your skills in a creative obstacle course, or play pickleball (after you learn what it is!). Stop by one of our fun photo booths. You can play with bubbles, or make a pennant banner to decorate the route. The event is hosted by Bike Walk Knoxville, with significant support from the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization and City of Knoxville. Thanks to our major sponsors: AA-Air, Remax, and Knoxville Track Club.
